The count so far of 'Birds that showed up for this mini rally at
Maxton is nine and we are really having a great time, but Lady Luck
has once again escaped the Dupree Racing Fiat Streamliner, that went
out of the competition with a colorful bang.

Luke started his run in a normal fashion and when he shifted the Fiat
into second gear there was a loud and colorful flaming explosion, he
immediately pulled the car off to the left side of the track which
indicated that he needed assistance, this also brought out the fire
and rescue equipment, as a large cloud of smoke enveloped the car,
Luke was at that time also activating the on-board fire extinguisher
to put out the engine fire, after one of the piston connecting rods
end had decided to exit the engine in an entirely new hole in the
Cadillac Northstar engine block thus ending any efforts at a new
record here at Maxton this weekend. Luke exited the car as the
emergency crews were arriving and he was uninjured.

We still have the big meal for tonight, and then breakfast in the
morning and of course more good times as we gather later tonight to
swap war stories and such.
