Don,

I only see what looks like globs of silicone on the panel back, with the
wire going through the silicone. What am I missing? Is there a plug
under the silicone?

Curt STOP:

There is no plug , the wires are attached to a foil,
do not disconnect, These wires can not be reconnected.
Go the other way follow the wires, to
the inverter. 12 volts IN AC volts OUT , the Hz are way
more than 60 Hz. maybe 200/ 300 Hz The voltage may be 110
or probably much higher RMS voltage 250 Volts
depending on your meter and reostat setting.
You can hear a faint Hum, and any voltage reading
is probably a good sign, I suggest you replace the inverters
with the new from Stephen. Makes the Gingerbread much brighter

No, the altimeter does not light.

Don,
Good question. I don't recall if the altimeter would light up. Once I
had the upper dash working, it soon failed which could be caused by me
doing a lot of work up in there. I have not gotten back to testing that.
Will do so soon, maybe. It is on my to-do-list.

Bill,
I replaced the original inverters, got them from Stephen. The upper EL
panels came alive after R&R the inverters. Now they don't come alive.
The trouble is most likely me working in the upper dash, and I caused
the problem.

Do you recall if the inverters 12VDC feed is fused?

Sorry Curt,

I did not trace the circuit, nor did I need to find a fuse or
circuit breaker. Start by looking at the master electrical drawing
for your 87 8v.
The EL, AC wireing on our 88 is color coded solid black and solid
green. These wires are heavier than expected and really stiff.
You may have a loose connection, BB also used those push-on
connectors and splice connectors that sometimes become loose.
I hard wired to the new inverters to eliminate some of these
troublesome contact connections.

One upper dash inverter. Multiple panels...a left panel, a right panel,
and the Altimeter between the two.

power my overhead panel. I have a Royal conversion and cannot remove the panel,
encased with wood. It is the only one that does not work so I think the problem
is in the inverters. Cannot find them. I don't know how I going to do it but
will try again. There are many stereo, TV and other cables in the overhead
cabs. Looks like good Italian spaghetti.

Is there only one panel? I think I have three.

Curt
I just went out & opened up my right side top dash & looked at it.
Yours might not be like mine but I have two wires coming from the left side.
One is green & the other is black. They have a male & a female plug on each
wire & are connected & from there they go to a silicone glob in the dash. The
glob is right below the Batt Charge & Coach Load Gage. It was the black wire
that was disconnected in mine. To make sure I unplugged it & I didn't have
any lights on the right side. I think they do it like this because they don't
light the altimeter gage area. My guess??? Hope this helps.
