HELP- IAM WELL DONE. TODAY IN OUR BIRD AS WE WENT TO TAKE A SHOWER THE

MOENTROL SINGLE KNOB THAT PULLS OUT FOR WATER AND THEN TWIST TO THE
RIGHT OR LEFT FOR HOT OR COLD WATER.THE SINK IN THE BATHROOM WORKS
RIGHT AS DOES THE SINK IN THE KITCHEN, HOT AND COLD AS YOU TURN THE
KNOBS.AM GOING TO WORK ON THIS PM AND AM LOOKING FOR A FEW IDEAS. IN
THE MEAN TIME ITS OFF TO THE PUBLIC SHOWERS. IF YOU HAVE A CLUE OR AND
IDEA DONT BE SHY.

Moen controls are quite reliable, but do fail from time to time. Go
to a Lowes or Home Depot and get a rebuild kit for your shower valve.
It will have some o-rings and possibly some other little pieces.
Probably you'll want to disassemble the valve and take it with you to
the store to check the parts and see if you have the kit for the
right model. (Hopefully, this isn't one of the Moen valves that
requires a special tool to take apart.) In your case, it sounds like
the failure managed to block the cold water port in the valve
control. Many Moen valves have a "lifetime" warranty. You can
probably order a rebuild kit for free from the company. In some
cases, they may refund the cost of a replacement kit.

Ed,
Echoing what Pete said, the Moen valve inserts are readily available
at Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace, etc., assuming you want to repair it
quickly rather than wait for a lifetime warranty replacement from Moen
that Scott mentioned the other day. Just unscrew and remove the
handle, remove the backing plate, and there is a "c" clip that you
pull out of the stem housing before you can remove the valve insert.
FYI, you may end up needing to borrow a puller to get the valve insert
out after all these years. I borrowed one from the Ace Hardware guys.
The re-build kit is a couple of o-rings, but I would just buy a new
insert because the inside of the insert is probably rusted up. You'll
want to brush out all the accumulated hard water scum and rust before
putting the new insert back in. A plumber's internal copper tubing
brush works well. Don't forget to re-insert the "c" clip, and for
darn sure don't slip and drop it down the back side of the shower
enclosure or you'll really have something to shout about! I don't
believe that a new retaining clip came with the insert.

I think you will find behind the control and handle cover a large cast plug.
Remove that plug and a piston is inside.
Remove the piston and clean out the cylinder and piston.
Sometimes the corrosion is bad enough that you need to use very fine emery
cloth.
Lube the cylinder with plumbers grease and reassemble and you should have
hot & cold water.

It's the Moen shower control. I would call them and explain what is happening
and they will sent you the parts. Very common problem after a few years.

Can you elaborate on your power steering leak and what you repaired?
I have a number of leaks on mine but haven't gotten around to
repairing them yet. The leaks on mine are on the feed and return
lines. It has been leaking since the coach was virtually new. I was
quite surprised to learn the temperature at which my power steering
was operating--228 degrees measured with a non-contact thermometer. I
think those temperatures contribute to the leaks. I'm planning to
replace my existing hoses with high pressure hoses with crimped
fittings and eliminate the barbed fittings.

Ed, et al, I guess you have a couple of answers at this point and
hope you got a warm shower by now. But you could do a search for the
topic and several posts would have come up giving you some answeres,
rather than waiting. Check posts 15483,15574,6597,15568. The search
function is very useful it will recall posts that have whatever
search parameters you type in.
The search function is another reason it is important when changing
topics to change the title of the topic as well. I believe most of
this was discussed in the last few weeks.

:scott --thanks for the reply to my post. i found the trouble to be the
piston below the plug at the top of the valve. it and the valve were
full of deposits, old white looking stuff. again thanks and i did look
up the post that you gave me the numbers to and did get some info from
them, again thanks.

to repair. first the seal on the power steering pump was leaking. had
to remove the front end to get to it but i made good use of that time
to check and replace things that needed replacing.replace hoses and
belts ,found a crack on the bracket at the fan and made a new one,no
big deal. the real leak was the return hose from the steering box. the
hose that the owner before me replaced it with a hose that was for
water and it was brittle and had several leaks in it. also the fitting
on the steering box was loose. that hose is about 6 ft long and runs
into the front of the battery box on my bird. the filter for my ps is
mounted on the front of my air filter housing and i will check the temp
at a later date. you can bet that my temp will be high also.good news
is that the leaks are gone and the floor in the bus barn is now clean.
now the bad news- to get to the fitting that was loose on the steering
box i had to remove the front seat and the rubber matting on the floor
then remove a small plate that covers the fitting. it was a pain in the
butt, but i used this as a time to look at the mounting bolts for the
steering box and did find one loose,so it was a blessing. look around
