MikeH,

Did you add a OD box to the back of your Allison MT643?

Who makes it?

Is it a bolt in gear box?

Do you retain the drive line retarder?

With fuel so high, it would be more beneficial now than ever, to add
the Over Drive.

The guy who figures this out for the PT's with 8V92 and 4 speed
Allison, will certainly be popular.

Call Adelmans in Canton OH, they have a web site, ask for a brownie box. It's a
in line 3 speed transmission designed to bolt mid drive shaft and provide more
ratio selection. Google for more info. Most are low direct and OD. Woody and
Randy are hip to brownie boxes and Woody has the ratio chart. My installation
left the retarder intact.
From my perspective the only thing that would make sense on a PT would be a late
model Allison upgrade or my favorite wet dream, for lack of a better term, a 13
speed OD.
I sure love the 13 in my toter.

Mike,
Please provide with us a ball park cost to buy and install the
transmissions you mention.

In my shop, around 3 grand to hang such a device in a FC. The drive shaft mods
require careful measuring and there is the issue of getting the height and
angles correct so the finished product is smooth on the road. Of course the
trans needs to be isolated from the frame to cancle out drive line vibrations,
that is a little involved. I chose to ad a new air dryer at the time I did the
OD installation, not much room under there. It's a damn shame BB chose a diff
you can't get a two speed carrier for. In the late 80s Monaco offered medium
duty drive trains with 643 Allison and two speed diff.
