Chris

I have noticed a very small amount of diesel fuel in the engine valley.
I can also smell it outside the front of the bus after a drive. I have
looked all over and only found a one loose bolt on the pump. It was a
bolt on the side that faces the valley or back of the engine. I
tightend it and I still have fuel in the valley. I have checked all
around and can't locate any leaks.
Should I be real concerned with this leak? It's not much....
Engine still runs fine...would it be taking a big chance to go one a
longer trip with this leak?
Thanks

Throttle shaft seal is a common culprit, also check to be sure all of
the injector lines are tight.

Start washing the pump and valley with brake clean, then blue paper shop towels
work good. Keep cleaning and running the engine until you find the source of
the leak or at least the area it's coming from, then I can tell you what's up.

I was experiencing the same symptoms on our '81 FC and it turned out to be the
return line was leaking. I believe it was on top of the tranny.

Chris,

Follow the previous posts, get it clean, this is good advice.

In the 3208 Cat manual there is a picture of two rear drain plugs,
These plugs have O ring seals, Check these seals. Careful because
fuel runs out of these holes.
I will second Jeff motion, It is probably the throttle rod seal.
I will add an additional posting on this topic.

Does the pump have to be removed to replace the throttle seal?
So the bolt that I tightened on the pump has an o-ring in it..that might still
be leaking?

I've read instructions and seen pictures of it being done with the
pump on the engine.

Chris,

There is a rear drain plug and a mounting bolt with seals.
Used for draining the pump, either or both can leak.
All the rear seals and throttle seal can be replaced without
removing the pump.
I "DO NOT" think you want to remove the injection pump
