I was looking at a 1981 FC35 on e-bay, but it has a 1980 paint scheme
and leaf springs. I thought air suspension was standard on BB's in
1981 and the paint scheme was different.

OK, I got a response from the seller:

"It is a 1980, I made a mistake when filling all the information
out. I am helping my aunt and uncle sell this RV, I'm not sure how
to change the information! You aure do know your bluebirds! thanx"

1980 and later have air springs. See <http://www.vintagebirds.com>
and click on the link to history. You can get a rundown of the basic
specs for each year (some years are better documented than others).
There's always a possibility that an "early" 'bird in the model year
may not have all the same features... that is, a 1980 might have leaf
springs if it was a chassis that was late through the production line
from '79.

It is unlikely that a "1981" has leaf springs... it's probably a '79
or early '80 instead of an '81.

Actually air suspension was a mid-year change for the 1980 models.
By what I have been able to tell I believe that this change was
around March or so of 1980. I have one of the first if not the
prototype for air suspension and it was manufactured in March of
1980. Mine has a few differences in the system including a valve
that no other units have plus I have had several ex-BB employees
look at it who think that it may have been a working prototype for
the air suspension....
