I would think the relays for the start Genset functions should run
off the gen battery only and any cross hooking could cause a path
around the diode and a failure to remotly start if house, coach
batteries are dead.

Greg:

The idea of the battery tie switch, is pulling in the solenoids to bypass
the charging path momentarily. This protects the diode or battery isolator
from higher than rated amperage as well a passing full amperage one way or
the other.

Ralph,
Am I understanding correctly that the Aux. Switch when depressed sends current
from the engine batteries directly to the generator starter. Depressing the
Aux. Switch will not send current from the Generator battery to the Engine
batteries.

Howard:

Current will go both ways when the tie switch is used. Engine won't start,
then you hit the tie switch to get a boost from the gen set battery. Gen
set won't start, hit the tie switch to get a boost from the engine/house
batteries. Tie switch back to normal, separates the batteries once again
via the solenoids, and charging returns through the diode or battery
isolator on the gen set. Some Coaches have a Bosh relay in that circuit, so
the tie switch energizes the Bosh relay and the currant flows to energize
the coils of the battery tie solenoids.

Some of the 90's Coaches have a three way battery tie switch. But will not
go into that one until I have had a po9ot of coffee and am fully awake.

Ralph,
My problem is I have the old battery boilers [ new chargers on order as we speak
] and some stray current draw even when 12v master and 12v electronic master is
off it is killing the batteries and it kills the Generator battery also. Can the
diode go bad where it allows reverse current flow or would the culprit be the
solenoid.

Without doing a few electrical checks I would have to assume that you have
a stuck, or bad solenoid causing the drain. The diode, usually will not
cause this type of problem. Sounds like you may have a high resistance
short in there; ie: solenoid contacts or cable shunted to the frame.
Actually there are 2 solenoids that work in conjunction with each other and
you should have the Bosh relay in your Coach as well, depending on the date
it was built. Some of the early Coaches did not have the Bosh, while later
Coaches of the same year did have the mod. No, go for the solenoids,, that
seems to be the 97% cause.
