Can anyone out there give me an evauation of the diference between
the spring and air suspension ride? I am looking at some early 1980 FC
units and they have the spring suspension. Tey also have the 210 HP NA
engine, which may not be enough to tow a toad.

Any comments would be appreciated..

Please sign your post so that we know who we are responding to. I
have a 1980 with air suspension and in my biased opinion it rides as
well as and better than most other manufacturers new models. The 1980
(as well as later FC's) utilize 2 bags per wheel whereas many other
manufacturers use 1. As far as pulling a toad, I have thousands of
miles pulling a 2001 Jeep Wrangler Sahara and have also pulled a Jeep
Cherokee with no problem. Granted the 210 hp can be a bit slow in the
hills but the idea is relaxation and enjoying the ride/scenery and at
8-9 mpg I don't mind being a bit slow in the hills. Keep in mind also
that the the old FC's are rated to carry more than most other (ie
plastic) manufacturers are rated to tow.

I have an 80 with springs. having never riden in one
with air bags can't compare but I think the ride is
good for the 15+ tons. my wife has a bad back so got
her a air ride truck seat and its fine with her now. I
know that I have never had to replace an air bag or
the leaveling things they talk about. as for power, or
lack of, go slow enjoy life. it's the only one you
got, and you can't see it all anyway. Have had no
problem with a toad don't even know it's back there,
have to turn on the camera to check' 8.6 mpg with gen
run aint bad, for a house!

I owned a 78 FC33 with leaf springs and now own an 84 FC35 with air
ride. The ride is better in the 84, but the handling in the 78 was
more precise and the ride wasn't objectional at all.

The difference to me with the 84 compared to the 78 is the
combination of ALL the
upgrades: air ride, turbo, retarder, larger diesel generator and
higher gearing which lowers engine speed and noise.

Sorry, I forgot to put my name in the post. Is there a way to have it
automaticaly placed at the end on every post. I was looking at my
profile but couldn't figure it out.

Thanks for the replies. I do like the idea of the retarder and
other upgrades, particularly the turbo in '85, but a real well kept
older unit is also very attractive.

Automatic Signature...Depends on the email product you are using. It
works something like this...Create your Signature in a word document.
Save this in My Documents\Signature (or somewhere). In your Mail Box
click on Edit. Then click on Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings (or
something close to this wording). Click on Attach This Signature. Click
Choose (Browse). Click on My Documents\Signature. Click OK. Test this by
creating an email, the automatic signature should show up.

Some products, at the Account Settings, allow you to create an automatic
signature.
