Thanks to everyone for their input on my dead levelers. A little more:

1) Are you folks saying that the leveler pump draws its juice from the
gen bat?

2) When I turn the system on and actuate the levers, the leveling
indicator lights dim like it's trying to do something, but there is no
noise from the pump. ALSO, I just noticed that after fiddling with the
levelers for a few seconds, there was a spot of oil on the ground under
the pump. These facts add anything to the prognosis?

In my limited experience based on my '85, 1: there are two
solonoids located near the pump. One is dedicated for the HWH pump,
the other is dedicated for the Gen set battery. This gen set one is
not directly used to power the leveler pump, the main cables may be
tied together for a common supply, but they do not work "together"
for the leveler system. 2: Still sounds like a bad ground, your
symptoms are exactly like i had...of course, there may be other
causes...cleaning the lever switches is a excellent step also. 3:
Your motor may also just be shot. Here is the real test...may i
suggest you use jumper cables to bypass everything and just try to
power the motor from the solonoid stud, jumping from say the gen
battery as a 12vt source; use a second cable to ensure a good motor
mount to ground connection...if when direct connected for a second,
it runs, then you have a connection/switch problem somewhere.

My 81 levelers are doing the same thing.. My lights on the dash just din
when I move the control lever.



It WAS working, until one day the levers were STUCK and the pump just kept
running, and running.. Until finally I smelled something hot, and a little
smoke under there..

Im not sure if it was just hot from running so long, or it burned up. It
kept getting slower, and slower until it stopped, now it won't do anything.



Maybe I fried the relay.??? There is some oil, gunk over those relays, maybe
it was the relay getting hot?

I had the same problem with my 1980 FC 35. The motor burned up because
it stayed on. There is no fuse or cicuit breaker for this. I added a
150 AMP cicrcuit breaker and now if the switches stick the breaker
will trip. I had the motor rewound at an automotive starter repair
shop I think it came to about $60.00. The circuit breaker was
purchased from West Marine it is a surface mount Blue Sea unit. I
mounted the breaker under the step that lifts up to check the oil
level in the pump. I just had to cut the cable supplying the power to
the solonoid for the pump and routed it through the breaker.
