Happy Greetings to all:
I am a BB wannabee ... [ or at least some kind of steel bus.? ]
Still gathering info on big boxy machines, but at least the BB units
qualify. Just found out about this group & joined last week.
Meanwhile, a word of caution to travelers in MT. IF you go over the
pass between Livingston and Big Timber, there are huge warning signs
as you come down to the bottom of the pass going East. Those signs are
not kidding.!!! Although you can not rely on it or make bets about it,
often times during a day, extreme winds [ gusts of 70 ++ MPH have been
clocked there.! ] have been known to blow loaded semi-trucks off the
road. I saw a picture of a mobile / modular home unit that was being
towed to its new owner. The driver felt a sudden lurch of his tractor
when he came down out of the pass as full highway speed. When he looked
in his mirror he noticed his rig had "jumped" over one full lane.!!
He then did a double take to realize that the entire mobile home was
gone.!! The only thing left was the "under frame", wheels and the
toilet ... sitting all by itself on the bathroom floor.!! The wind had
literally sheared the building box off the mobile frame.
Drive safe and enjoy beautiful western MT. I lived in Helena for
27 months back in 1965-67. I often miss it and maybe I will go back
some day. Seldon high heat and no humidity to speak off. Wonderful.!
Question for any/all. Is there any other steel body RV motorhome
ever been made.? I think there are other bus manufacturers that make
steel school bodies, but I am not aware of them producing RV type
machines. I have some very specific requirements that, so far, only
seem to have been met by, at least, the older BBs. My desire list is
based on my being an Amateur Radio Operator [ or "ham radio guy" as we
are also called.]. I have particular interest in being able to live
in a home on wheels that can double as an emergency radio shack or
command post. I plan on being self contained & self sustainable for at
least 2 weeks in what ever terrain I find myself [ yeah, well of
course not moutain peaks or swamps, etc.] But most any back roads or
other places.
If there are any other BB-ham owners that are piqued by my post
or have some ideas about same, please let me know. Email me direct if
you think this site is not appropriate for such fodder. Remember my
appearance here is primarily to find the right steel bodied bus.
My thanks for the founders of this site and their effort and also
input from everyone. Helping one another is a wonderful thing.!
In my short time of "lurking" I have been enjoying the special
commradieree that I have found on this site and hope to be a worthwhile
contributor myself someday.
Meanwhile, GOD Bless all you & yours on or off the highways.
