HEY EVERYONE!
I am in process of performing long overdo maintainance on my 1982 FC53SB with
factory installed 3208 turbo, and pulled out old air filter from air box on
passenger side today. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A FILTER ARRANGEMENT LIKE THAT
BEFORE....there are 5 rectangular paper filters in a series in a metal
frame/box. I assume the filters are available, but don't have any part nos. or
any idea where to find them except possibly BB ? Does anyone have any info. to
offer?

Has anyone done any modification to this factory arrangement to improve air
flow such as I have seen with John Finn's recent UPGRADE on his BIRD'S intake
system?

Any INFO. WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

THANK YOU ALL!
Dr. Bill Sampson 82 FC35SB Knoxville, Tn.

The truth is, I don't know it was" factory installed," but I assumed that it is
due to what appears to be a "factory looking" instrument panel containing turbo
boost/exhaust temp/and tranny temp gauges as well as the design/placement of
turbo and air box in passenger side compartment. This was definitely done by a
professional and LOOKS as if it was ALWAYS this way. I know the 1982 FC's did
not offer a turbo originally, and whoever installed it must have had a KIT
specifically made for this conversion?

Did BB offer this FACTORY UPGRADE or provide these CONVERSION KITS ?

I checked the cat engine plate, and it is the original cat 210 hp
(manufactured -april 1981), and the serial nos. on engine and dash plate match.
If I understand correctly, the turbo adds a grand total of 15 additional horses,
to a whopping 225 hp total?

THANKS FOR ASKING and RESPONDING!

Bill some questions:

1. How do you know the engine is factory installed? The 1982 OEM
engine was 210HP NA engine

2. Check on the right valve cover and write down the numbers, HP,
arrangement number and serial number. these are important.

All of the parts you need are available from your local Cat dealer
and you will probably get the best prices there.
