ok had a trans tech lined up to come out this morning (99mi one way) He
called us this morning and ask a lot of questions. I memtioed that the
tachometer kept jumping around from 6 to 1600 rpms. However the engine
sounds steady. Now the tech says it is giving a false reading to the
transmission not allowing us to shift.(Do Not Shift light still on).
The tachometer does remain steady on high idle however.

Any Ideas?

Rick, my tach, speedo and, odom, do wierd things also. When I run the
genset with the bus engine off, the tach reads 600 rpm and the odom
clocks miles. I have to turn the key on and back off to get it to stop
adding miles. the bus was plugged into 50 amps for two weeks and the
odom clocked several hundred miles. I was told it is a "electrical
Noise issue" The computer on the engine showed 40,000+ miles and the
dash odom shows 79,000+. That kinda tells me that the dash odom and
engine computer odometer are different. It seems that the phantom tach
readings go away when the engine is on. I have not been concerned with
the false reading (helps with my mpg)but it may have somthing to do
with my "do not shift light"

I think high Idle sends the most juice and may provide a clearer
signal??? DOes your high speed idle function work inspite of the tach
readings??
