Hello to All-

I've been away from the forum for awhile but am continuing to enjoy
our '99 LX. One annoying problem, however. My front door does not
close tight unless I grab the interior handle with both hands and slam
it with all of force I can muster (I weigh 236 lbs. so you can imagine
that's quite a bit of force). Otherwise, it will close and latch, but
there is a gap that creates wind noise when going down the road.

Anyone know how I can adjust the door or latch so that it will close
properly? Thanks in advance.

HI Wayne:

First, with the door closed and you standing out side, look along the
closure seam and note where the gaps are, top of the lock or below the lock.

To adjust the door, you will need a 5 or 6 inch round rolled up carpet, a
2x4 8 feet long and a helper.

Open the door, the carpet roll goes between the door and the jamb at the
lock area, the 2 x4 goes up through the awning arm at the top and down
across the top of the door at an angle. Some one holds the 2x4 in place
tight to the side of the coach and you push the bottom of the door toward
the coach until you achieve the right amount of adjustment for the gap.
Remove the tools and try the door looking at the gap and door closure.
Repeat the process until it is adjusted.

This is a common problem on PT's for what ever reason but easily adjusted.
OH, yes, be sure to buy your helper a beer.

Safe travels,

Hi Ralph,

Let me see if I get this advice correctly. Are you
suggesting the way Wayne is to fix this, is by bending
the door? And doesn't the LX have the air lock wedge
mechanism? as well as the regular lock mechanism?

Hi John:

I am not positive about the air lock mech. I do know that on pre LX series
this is how the Factory adjusts the entry doors on PT's. This was explained
to me at our last trip to Bird's Nest. It is just a matter of bringing the
door back into alignment. Oh and we never ever bend anything, it is
re design or re align,, Also it does not take much adjusting to get
everything back to where it was really, it is a subtle push.

What Ralph is explaining is to GENTLY sprain the door hinge and it
also rearranges the door same thing could be accomplished by Gently
lifting on outside corner of door either top or bottom which ever is
needed to realign door It is much harder and more time consuming to
loosen the hinges and if you it that way make sure you have about
twelve arms to help. After readjusting door readjust lock plates on
coach body
thats how they do it in body shops only there they usually have a
Special Service Tool A nice shiny 2 inch nut to jam in the hinge

I called the factory and was told by someone sitting in for Bennie
that the stud for the latch is adjutable. It is mounted in a slot
and a slight realignment should do the trick for me. Thanks again to
all for the suggestions.
