On many diesels, there is a manual shut off switch for the engine if
the key switch fails to stop fuel delivery. I haven't seen one on my
FC with CAT 3208. Is there one? If not, what is the emergency shut
off procedure? I know putting a plastic bag around the air filter
will probably solve the problem, but I'm curious as to whether BB
built an alternative into the system from the start.
I've seen at least a few accounts of 3208's running away as a result
of bad seals in the turbo fueling the engine with oil.

Take the wire off the fuel soleniod on top of the fuel service assembly, without
voltage applied the solenoid should drop shutting off the fuel.to start it you
will have to connect the wire back up to apply voltage.if all else fails remove
the solenoid and put finger in the hole and push down on the fuel control. you
will have to pull it up manually to start.

The 2 cycles had them in the event of a run away which could happen
the manual shutoff on the Detroits was butterfly valve in the intake
that once fliped closed the air off. When I went thru heavy truck
school years ago, training engines would have to be perodically
destroyed when the training value was used. A previous class had used
the plastic bag you mentioned and came close to burning down the
building as the melting plastic travled thru the dyno exhaust. We
destroyed an 8v. We ran it with no water,a cup of screws thru the
inlet, no oil and finally a cup of blasting sand thru the inlet. We
went to lunch let it cool came back and the beast still tried to start
just not enough compression. If you need something to put in fornt of
the intake for emergency I would suggest a steel plate
