I've mulled this over for a week now. I refuse to pay $100/mo for taxes to
own this rig! In SD the registration was approx $300/yr. In St. George, with all
the "fees" it is $1,200/yr. I can't do it! I've spent a week trying to talk
myself into it. I can handle the deprecation, the insurance, the upkeep....but
I just can't give Uncle Sam this much money every year, knowing it will never
end. The tax office already told me the Bluebird is at the bottom of the
depreciation table, so the "fees" won't drop much.
I could lie and say I still live in SD....but that isn't in my nature. In my
BC (before Christ) days I would have had no problem doing that. Looks like I'm
going to be buying a used 4x4 Chevy Duramax and a fifth wheel to avoid the
tax bite.
I'll be selling this one in the mid 60's. Most of you know the previous
owner, as he is a frequent poster here. Between him and I (mainly him) there is
a
stack of receipts an inch high, totaling over $20,000 in upgrades and
improvements since '03. Heck just 2 weeks ago I put in a 23" Sony LCD TV on a
removable
bracket, so I can put the TV in the bedroom of our house, when the rig is in
storage. It's even got a full tank of fuel (300 gallons), as I wasn't planning
on selling it.....until I talked to the County Assessor's Office.
