A trip to the Strasburg Pa Railroad Museum is always fun. This time I practiced my shooting from the hip! Since the move I can't find my Nikon SLR, stuffed in a box somewhere - these shots were taken with my Android. Enjoy!

The halibut weighed 246 lbs. and was the first halibut I had ever caught. It was like dragging up a bucket of concrete. We got it to the surface twice and shot it in the head and it would go back down. We "D" ringed it (put a rope through it's mouth and out through the gills and around the tail and pulled it up in a loop) before we tried to get it in the boat as a tail swipe can break a man's leg. The second halibut I caught was 96 lbs. and all I have been doing since then is lowering my average.
The airplane is a Maule M6 that I had custom built at the factory in Moultrie, Georgia in 1983. My wife and I have been in and out of 400 ft. soft sand strips with it. It is a small airplane hanging on a big engine and is the ultimate bush machine.

Great story about the halibut, it must've taken hours to land. The plane in the attached video looks like a Maule too. Unbelievable takeoffs and landings. What kind of engine does yours have?

The plane in the video is a Piper Super Cub (probably with a 180hp engine). I believe this video was taken at Valdez at a short field take off and landing contest. The have these contests several places in Alaska. My Maule M6 had a Lycoming 235 hp engine that I had goosed to about 250 hp in a 1560 lb. empty weight airplane.
Below is a picture of an experimental aircraft I had that I had entered in a short field take off contest at Glenallen and they wouldn't let me fly because they knew it was a no contest situation. The other picture is an experimental that I built and put on floats.

Wow George, the short-field experimental looks like it'll takeoff straight up, like helicopter. I can see why they ruled it out. I'm sure you learned a lot building those planes. Very impressive. You don't like to fish much do ya? A life well lived I'd say - with no signs of stopping any time soon! Keep on motoring George, and sharing pics!
Below are a couple pictures of the last airplane I built. It used part of an Avid Flyer kit aircraft with the fuselage, tailfeathers and landing gear modified and had a modified Subaru EA81 car engine. It was the quietist piston engine aircraft I have ever flown.
