I installed a battery powered combined fire/CO detector in our bus
after purchase. I had concern over the propane heaters as far as
fire/CO (I checked them out, but still, components are 20 yrs old...)
and also wanted to ensure i had a good smoke detector. Detector is
mounted mid cabin in our 33' and we normally do not close the
bedroom door when on the bus except to dress, if i had a longer bus,
or separated areas, i would consider one for any isolated sleeping
area.
A hardwire unit will not be active if no 120vt...A battery powered
one will not be active on a dead battery....take your pick.
Does it work....well, the "morning toaster test" has on occassion
alarmed the unit for smoke/fire. And last year I started the
generator (THIS WAS A DUMB MOVE...trying to rush) "just for a
minute" with the RV cover on trying to trace a circuit. The window
over the gen exhaust was cracked about 1/2 inch, and the detector CO
alarmed after about 2 minutes, before I could smell anything...
