Does anyone have an idea what the correct asking price should be for a
used 80 to 83 FC35 in average/decent mechanical condition??? Have been
looking around on the internet and seen many for sale all over the
country with asking prices that vary by as much as $25,000. It is all
very confusing for a 1st time buyer. Any help in this regard would be
greatly appreciated. I am looking for a good running unit that may need
a little cosmetic fix up or interior work. Thanks.

I have a copy of the NADA (Older Recreation Vehicle Appraisal Guide)
that is dated Sept thru Dec 2004 that has the below info. These are
approximate values since upgrades and maintenance done on these coach
can greatly impact true values.

It looks like it was a typo and should have been an "M33SB" instead.
That would make the prices make sense also. Was the rear bath only
available in 1983 in the 33' bird? That doesn't seem right.

I'm suprised at the size of the $$$ difference between the 31-33'
footers (hundreds of $) and the '35 footers (thousands of $).

The 35' not only had a third AC unit, but the Diesel 12.5kw generator, as
opposed to two AC's and the gas generators (as standard, I do believe that the
Diesel was an option).
That accounts for a probably a third of the $20k.

Tim, I could'nt agree more! Those numbers seem offbase to me. Also
consider those prices are "old". Which means today they are LOWER!
Dave nothing against you at all thanks for the info. I have found
with pricing used boats that the "used" boat books often start with
the base pricing missing or excluding the options.ie: chrome rub
rails, ice machine,upgrades, mileage etc. On older boats I often put
a value on a used boat from the aspect of what will my market pay for
it! Condition, appearance, maintenance all play a part.

AS WE ALL KNOW the real price of a BB is what one is willing to sell
for and one is willing to buy for. For those needing financing lets
hope the bankers don't see this....I believe I would contact the
dealers or brokers as to a REAL value they are more in the know as to
value today.

Heck after the RIV we were looking a a new BB and were assured we
could get "what ever you want" as a trade in...hell I prolly would
boast that I sold the only six figure FC going..lol..

As silly as it may sound, the right price is what you are willing to pay and
what the seller is willing to accept; as with most things in life, it is a
matter of negotiation. Don't spend too much time wondering about the right
price; make a low ball good faith offer and see what happens.

When I was trying to finance my 83 FC35SB, I had a hard time finding
a value for the Credit Union to accept.

I agree with all the posts about how to find the best selling price
which is often different than what is provided by NADA. But I did
not see these numbers til after I had bought my bird and to my
surprice my net price was very close to the number show.

Also please remember these numbers are 1 year old and do not account
for options or condition. The back of the NADA Yellow book reads ...

Do not use the Appraisal Guide after December 31, 2004.

The reason the prices are all over the map is that the mechanical
conditions of the buses vary all over the map.
There are about a million and 3 gizmos on a Wanderlodge. A
meticulous and conciencious owner will be right on top of anything
that breaks and fix it right away. At the other extreme is the owner
who just puts gas in it and lets things slide when they go.
When I was calling and talking to owners of units for sale, I'd
ask about the maintenance history, what was good about their unit and
what all didn't work on it.
The answers were very interesting, indeed.
I'm a mechanic and do almost all my own work on mine. In 2 years
and 30,000 miles of ownership I've learned more than I ever wanted to,
if you get my drift. ;o)
Don't buy any unit that hasn't been thoroughly checked by an
expert. Once they've done a check, you'll have a "list" with some
prices on it. This will give you a baseline from which to make a
decision.
Most experience Wanderlodge owners will tell you to have an extra
10 grand available after purchase to take care of things that either
need attention now or will shortly. :o)
I read every single post on all the Bird forums for 4 months
before I bought, just to see what commonly breaks on these things.
For the most part, it's just little stuff, but it adds up. It's
rarely major, like engine, transmission or rear end.
I'd suggest Ralph Fullenwider, Randy DuPree or Jeff Miller for
the pre-purchase check.
If it's nice and the list is short, mid thirties can be very
reasonable. If the list is longer, start subtracting from there.
There are some that may approach negative net values...
