I am new to the group as well. My wife, 11 year old daughter and I
have been RVers over the last few years.

We currently have a popup for sale and hope to purchase a used Bird,
perhaps a mid-eighties to early nineties. We live on the southside of
Atlanta.

Our goal is to take a two month trip around the U.S. next summer. We
also like to tailgate at NASCAR races and football games as well as
camp in the mountains.

We have always been in awe any time we saw a Bluebird in the
campground, no matter it's age. Safety is a big factor for us.

We look forward to participating in the Forum in order to learn more
about Bluebirds and hopefully get pointed in the right direction in
our pursuit for a used unit.

Rick,
I have a 86 pt 40 My wife, 5month old son,Evan & I have in a year traveled
thousands of miles
out west, have had a Blast, three months ago we had a front tire blow out
without warning.
We had a wild ride, traveled over the median & three foot burm went airbourne
landed
upright. the front axle broke but nobody was hurt. Progressive had it tow to a
truck centers
location. The tow car was totaled, received a check for that in three days.
after a few weeks
the estamate to fix the BB was $47500. I am holding the check for two months and
will pick
up the fixed up bird in a couple of weeks, they are doing a wonderful job on the
repairs.
my point is this,, Driving on the highway is dangerous no matter what you drive.
I would not
trust my family in any other RV in that price range. My wife is looking forward
to being on the
road again, and do you know any other plastic 86 RV that a insurance company
would pay
that much to fix?
I would buy any 85 -92 BB & enjoy, check your tires, don't be in a hurry, and
use progessive

Hi, Rick--

A big welcome to the group to you and your family! You're right on the mark in
connecting the relationship between safety and the superior construction and
quality of Blue Birds!

When we stopped by the side of I-5 in WA state to oogle the vintage coach we
eventually purchased in 2003, several other people stopped by, including a few
veteran truck drivers, who admiringly attested to the exceptional construction,
quality, and longevity of these coaches (and who should know better about such
things than folks who spend much of their lives on the road and know what it is
to rely on a well-put-together big-rig?).

Hope you can find the Blue Bird of your dreams in time for your trip next
summer. And, you certainly won't find a nicer, friendlier, more helpful group of
folks than Blue Birders on this forum!

If you're going to be in the Pacific Northwest next summer, please let us know.
The PNW Bird group will probably be continuing traditions we began just this
year as we started organizing rallies in March, June, August, and late
September-early October.

Best regards.

Jo-Ski (and Stew)
