I'm one of the few guys here that is still using their factory
A/C system, but it suits my business needs. My question is regarding
factory A/C pulleys.
I was on the phone today with a A/C parts salesman and after
looking at pix of my bus, he asked me to measure my engine pulley
vs. A/C pulley. He said they need to be at least 1:1, but if the A/C
pulley is smaller, then it would be over-revved. I measured and got
a 1 : 1.4 ratio overreving the A/C compressor.
Is this bad for my compressor? I looked at other buses I've owned
and the pulley on the A/C is bigger than the engine pulley, so why
would TransAir install a smaller pulley on the A/C compressors?
These were shuttle buses so I'm wondering if they tried to get the
A/C to turn faster at idle or slow traffic to make the A/C colder.
Any thoughts? Should all A/C compressors have a 1:1 ratio or
more on the side of the A/C pulley? This is news to me until now b/c
I've never really thought about it before.
Do I have any claim against TransAir for replacement parts b/c
I've already smoked a $600 clutch assembly and I'm wondering if the
pulley size is why?
