Hi
I got the radiator back in today! Yea! just took a lot of patience
and holding my mouth right, & propping the rad & shroud just right to
get those bottom shroud bolts back in...have everything bolted back
together, haven't fired it yet. Think my little brother would be
tickled that I was able to fix it!

Figure while I've got the slide out and can reach all that gray/black
insulation that is falling down, cracking and rotting in the
generator bay-- I'd finish pulling it out....it's caused problems a
couple times, by falling down on and around the genny causing it to
shut off....
Question, has anyone used the spray in foam type insulation? There
are a couple places nearby that advertise. (haven't called yet to see
if it's heat resistent etc. tho someone told me it was???)

Rose Mary,

Congratulations! I'm sure your little brother would be proud of you!
You are an inspiration to me and my wife, she's willing to
tackle 'Bird repairs and enjoys the "adventure" of learning by doing.

The 'Birds have sprayed on urethane insulation for sound supression
on the underside of the coach. I have no idea of its heat resistance
properties... I'm sure someone on the forum(s) has more direct
knowledge of this product or can recommend another product better
suited to your application.

Keep learning, you'll have the "enjoyment" and satisfaction of having
done it yourself for much less money than hiring it done.

Rose Mary, Great news!! Good to see you "update" the situation. The
insulation question is right on the money..do the upgrade NOW when
you have the genny out.It will be sooo much easier without the genny
compartment full of stuff...I purchased the insulation material from
forum member Stephen Birtles..man that stuff is good. Very easy to
work with. (ie:cutting, placing before removing the "very sticky"
backing) That material is very good. One word of caution...Make sure
the surface on the coach is REALLY clean..especially the TOP of the
genny compartment. Mine was not (son did the grinding there) and it
fell..I had to redo that portion..but there was a NOTICEABLE noise
difference...when the genny ran!!

screws and washers in..ran outa steam on that project tonite..

how many sheets did you get?
i got 3 and i needed 4~~~~~~~~~

Looks good, I want the OEM fan shroud. Dupree will ship it.

Woody, your exactly right I could have used more. I think I got 2.5
sheets from Stephen. One note..If you have not completed the project
yet I noticed the clearance on the front (body panel)and the water pump
pully was REALLY CLOSE. Mine is cutting into the material. Not a biggy
for me cause the genny not working exactly right. Also the idea of
screws and fender washers is a good one for the top of the compartment.
The material is so heavy (it has to be) I think with all the vibrations
from genny running, and driving down the road, the best idea is to
secure that section. The rest has held up great. A 5.00 roll of
aluminum tape to finish corners etc makes for a clean upgrade.

I am gonna make one last attempt to fix it myself since I now have
relays, regulators etc "in stock" lol. Just waiting for the heat to
subside a bit. Should that fail (with my mechanical ability coupled
with my patience level being stuffed under there) dont bet the ranch
that I will fix it sooooo maybe a bunch of good/like new parts may be
for sale. I will have the answer soon!!

I redid my generator compartment with Soundown composite foam 1" thick 2#
per square foot insulation with a foil coating and the engine doghouse with
2" thick 2# per square foot composite insulation with a foil coating (
http://www.soundown.com/ ). The generator insulation has been on for over
2 years and it is still as tight as when I installed it. I coated both the
generator surface and the insulation with 3M Super 77 adhesive. When the
two surfaces are put in contact it is impossible to remove without
destroying the insulation it is that good an adhesive.

The 2" insulation was $169 for a 4.5 by 6' sheet which was more then enough
to do the engine doghouse with material left over. It made a dramatic
difference in both noise control and heat.. The 1" insulation was $116 and
comes in a 4' by 8' sheet and there was material left over when doing the
generator compartment. It should be noted that the piece for the generator
door panel was cut using the old piece that BB had installed for a pattern
and the cutouts for the pullies gave the correct clearance for them.
