Has anyone heard of not being good to tow a 2000 Jeep Wrangler with a
posi-track rear end 4 down? My 2000 Wrangler is in the shop right now having
the
rear end replaced. I've towed it around 20,000 miles. I always heard that the
jeep was a good car to tow. Was I wrong? My mechanic doesn't think it is a
good tow car.
Thanks Don

Your Mechanic may be thinking of the 1980 to 1986 CJ7 with the Dana
300 transfer case, which is a gear driven, Iron case & very strong..
I think your YJ has the 241 aluminum T-Case wuth the chain drive.
Just put these in Neutral, and tow away.
I installed a Warn Floating rear axel kit in my CJ, with Lockout hubs.
When I tow, all 4 wheels roll merrely along..
I also removed the steering wheel lock in the colum, so I dont have to
remember about that...
You might change out that Posi-thing with a real locker, such as a
LockRite, Detroit or ARB... They do not wear out!

-Don, I have been pulling Jeeps for years. I have two now. I have
never had any trouble. I have a 87 jeep wrangler with 154000 miles
and a 2000 wrangler with 8500 miles on it and never had any trouble.

I too have been towing a wrangler with a slipper in the rear axle only. But
its an 05 lwb rubicon, so have not had any trouble yet. Would be interested
to learn if the slipper is causing the failure. This thing also has air
lockers front and rear but that should not be a concern.

Thanks Guys for the replies on the jeep. There might have been something
else caused mine to go out. It has never been off road & is well taken care
of. I mainly bought it to tow & runaround in when we get there.
