We are in Montana and thinking about going to Glacier National Park.
From there we would go to Seattle.
Looking at the map US 2 is the major highway in that part of the
country but it looks like a lot of curves in mountains.
Anyone have any experience with this highway with a 40' motorhome?

Truckers run US-2 and so will your PT40. Now, if you wanted to go
north on US-89 and then cross the park at St. Mary that would be a
different story. Very high, narrow, and twisty. In fact, I think that
road is closed this year due to slide damage. US-2 should be fine for
you however.

I-90 is faster than US-2, but a freeway is a freeway is a freeway . . .

For a great look at Washington's mountains from a good highway,
consider turning north off US-2 at Orondo, WA and then left on WA-153
for a few miles until you hit WA-20 between Carlton and Twisp.
Continue west on WA-20 over the North Cascades Highway to I-5. Be sure
to stop and enjoy Winthrop on the way through. The North Cascades
Highway will put you right next to glaciers and high peaks, yet the
road is relatively new and wide with places to pull off. A really
special place!

Hi There: Well, its not as flat as Las Cruces!...
Actually, we went thru there in our Pre-Bird days in a 20' Toyota,
with a 4 cyl engine, yet.. I really don't recall any problems with
grades, except "The Highway To The Sun" was really steep, and twisty,
but closed to anything over 23 feet anyway. Some of the campgrounds
in the park are not any too roomy. I had trouble parking the Toy one
night.
Overall, the scenery is great. Don't miss it!!
BTW/ Try the Coffee Pot reataurent in Ronin...Great food..

Julie, well we have a 35' fc not a 40 ft'er but we have been across
Highway 2 from Seattle to Michigan, including several times across
Montana. Highway 2 is a two lane road. It varies in road quality
somewhat but basically never gets much better than where you are in
Montana. Highway 2 is a main thouroughfare that truckers use. The
notable curvy and narrow spots are: Montana- Happys Inn to Libby; Idaho-
Sandpoint to Newport; and in Washington- from Levenworth to Goldbar.
of course.... these are also the more senic sections of Highway 2. Two
significant downhills on this route are from Waterman to Wenatchee
Washinton and from the summit of Stevens Pass for about 2 miles to the
west. Knowing that you folks are very experienced travelers I
seriously doubt that you will have difficulty on this route.
