Started the Cat and no air pressure would build on the gauges or
suspension (first time ever). Shut cat off and turned on auxiliary air
compressor. Everything aired up as usual. Shut off auxiliary air
compressor and restarted cat. Air pressure would build normally.

What is starting to fail?

Thanks.

Dan,

I would replace the air pressure governor. About a $15.00 part.

Is it possible that the wet tank had no pressure, that the front and
rear brake tanks had pressure and that you did not run the engine long
enough for the wet tank pressure to get high enough to start raising
the pressure in the front and rear brake tanks?

I second that. NAPA carries the governor, it is mounted on the air
compressor under the doghouse.

Thanks for the replys. I saw the governer last week while changing the fuel
line. If anyone has the part number handy for Napa, would appreciate it.

Dan,
The governor you want is called a D-2 Governor. They are available
from most heavy truck stores. Should cost from $10 to $20. Napa will
most likley be the highest priced. I have an extra that I carry with
us. It is easy to change. Two 7/16 bolts, a couple of allen plugs to
put in the new one.(they come with it) and 2 hoses to undo and reattach.
Good luck

Curt,
Upham is about 100mi north of Sacto.

FYI, both Jacobs and Pac breaks are the same. Just that Jacobs was
bought by Paccar.(Pac-Brake) I was mistaken about Cummins owning
Jacobs. Jacobs makes various versions of braking devices. The one on
my coach is a drive-line retarder.

Not true. The Original Jacobs Brake is an Engine brake utilizing the
valves and the Pac Brake is an Exhaust Brake utilizing a butterfly in
the exhaust system. Jacobs does make various types of braking systems
since the original patents have run out, but are the originator of the
Engine Brake only. The others they have copied. The end results of the
Pac Brake and the Jake Brake are basically the same in that they
slow the coach but the Jake is very noisy while the Pac is very quiet.
I have installed and used both and if given a choice today, would have
the Pac Brake. It is less complex and are not outlawed in many places
like the Jake Brake.

Has anyone installed a Pac Brake on a cat 3208NA? If so where did you get it?
