i just received the title for my '76 wanderlodge. in the space for
VIN, it says, simply: 9833

vin decoders on the internet all seem to want 17 digits. how do i
decode this wanderlodge vin?

Hi Ken,

That number on your title is most likely the Blue Bird factory chassis
serial number. You can confirm that with them directly. Vehicle
manufacturers did not use the 17 digit VIN system until 1981. Prior
to that, they used their own individual numbering system, which may
have included the 17 digits (or not).

Terry is correct. In '76 there was no 17digit VIN, it was simply the
body number (F-number) as on the tag displayed when the engine-top
console is removed or on the sticker/plate stuck to the bottom-left
side of the steering column.

Wanderlodges from the '70s with 17digit VINs have had them "invented"
by various DMV and other agencies so that they would work with their
computer system.

thanks for the info, i appreciate it. i was hoping there was a way to decode
the vin so i would know what originally came on the coach from the factory.
i guess there's no online database to supply that info?

Ken,

You can contact Blue Bird and they should be able to give you the build
specs for your Bird based upon your chassis "F" serial number. I have
not seen an online database for this info anywhere on any of the forums
but maybe someone else has a source?
